Obituary of Janice Louise Bertha Spence

Janice Spence (Scaabe Ikwe) Spirit Helper June 9, 1959 - March 11, 2022 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, godmother and best friend Janice Spence. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Tammy (Jeff), Shannon and Paula. Grandchildren: Lindsay (Brent), Haley, Collin, Sampson, Emily, Trent and Tyler. Brothers John (Audrey), Aaron (Lila). Sisters Yvonne, Pam (Sonny), Wanda, Charlotte (Lorne), Trudy. godchild Ryan Spence, life long friends and sisters Marilyn Courchene and Heather Guimond. Janice was predeceased by her mother Joyce Spence, brother Perry and just a short three months earlier, her sister Debbie. Her heart and soul were pure. She had so much love that it emulated to everyone around her. Janice was a pillar for her community, selfless and always put others needs before hers. Her family is mourning the loss of a strong Indigenous woman. Janice worked with many non-profit Indigenous community organizations. She worked tirelessly for the community and its members, particularly the Sagkeeng Urban members of which Janice founded. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren whom she adored dearly. Janice took solace in her quiet times with a cup of tea and a good game of sudoku. As per her wishes cremation to follow at a later date. Special thanks to St. Boniface Hospital palliative care for their wonderful care they provided Janice. Big Miigwetch to Chief and Council of Sagkeeng First Nation for all the support during this difficult time.
